I won't post a pic of my very first attempt because it is truly embarrassing considering it was basically my first time sitting down at a sewing machine. But I will show you cloth diaper attempt number two!
I thought a farm scene on a booty would be hilariously cute.
This is a fitted diaper I made using the Sprout Snap pattern. It isn't waterproof, but with a quilted prefold I already have, I can get a good 2.5-3 hours out of it. I plan on making a hidden layer of PUL in the future.
The outer is a woven print. The hidden inner is one layer of needled cotton, mostly to provide reinforcement for the snaps, and the inner is brown crushed panne.
I think I did a pretty good job! And it actually WORKS.
But of course, I had some help:
Mama, let me show you how to thread this thing.
Now let's talk snaps.
and of course the giant kisses my baby so willingly gives are super helpful!

Wow! Look at you! Looks great, especially for a first timer!
Love it! I've made a few too, they are hard work!!
So cute! I've actually been wanting to make/but some for a while now. Torin is 11 months old... is it too late? Would your advice be to buy first and then make, or do you think I could just start out by making them? Cloth diapering scares me, can you tell?
Cloth diapering is like crack. There I said it. Also, the farm scene is adorable! I know a good friend who would love a farm scene or cowboys if you ever start selling! I also love the fabric for the second one!
Brit, I would buy a few first just to get an idea of what you like, develop your wash routine, etc. I have a few WAHM cloth diaper giveaways coming up and they also have really great prices. Browse around 123 Cloth Me. Hers are awesome!
Love love love it! Looks great. Newborn cloth diapering is going to be so foreign to me... I didn't start til my son was 4 months. I have seen so many adorable WAHM newborn diapers that are affordable. My husband wants "us" to do prefolds, but I'm the one home most of the day, and I definitely don't want to do prefolds all the time. Decisions, decisions...
Callie, you need cute diapers! That's half the fun! I plan on making my whole newborn stash once I find out what's baking :)
Kristin!! Great job! I can't wait to see what else you make!
You might need to give a sewing tutorial. I tried, and after two hours of bobbin issues, I gave up! I def. want cute diapers...
Bobbins are the devil!
I would consider myself good at sewing, but I'm so intimidated by making cloth diapers! I even bought some PUL, but am still too scared. You've inspired me to at least try!
And the farm print is just too much. :)
Those look awesome! Keep up the good work!
MommaM, there is a learning curve for sure, but my third diaper I made last night was SO MUCH EASIER than the first two. And I am totally proud of it!
Where did you buy your PUL from?
Good job mama!! I wish I can do something useful like that.
Wow, it came out fantastic!
Wow! a pattern! I shall be checking that out for sure! Thanks for the inspiration!
gorgeous. I guess you have a "snapper" machine too :) I am very curious to make diapers too but my sewing machine skill are awful.
